Color Scheming

Kitchen ColorsWith plumbing done and electrical (hopefully) completed today (more on disappointing inspections later) drywall will start soon. We need to decide on interior colors so we set up camp in a Sherwin Williams store, layed out our countertops, flooring, cabinet samples and tiles and started looking at color swatches with a designer/Sherwin Williams employee/mediator.

After an hour of looking at swatches and narrowing it down, we pulled out our home plans to map out what colors will be in each room including walls, trim, cabinets and countertops. It helped us plan how the colors in each room could work together and how the house as a whole could feel cohesive.

Bathroom Colors

We chose everything but master bath and exterior colors and decided we’ll decide those this weekend. After a quick test of Steely Gray that will be in the guest room and den, we spent an afternoon painting over the AquaGreenBlueMintyGrossness that was in the guestroom since we moved in. The new color is more blue and cooler than Cory had plannedĀ  but the trade off is Joel allowing a warm color in the bedroom.

Much of the downstairs will be Ancient Marble, a muted, medium gray green, that will extend from the front door, through the hall and into the kitchen. It works well with the olive green of the kitchen counter yet it’s neutral enough to go with however we choose to decorate the front room.

Perfect timing. I’m in remodel hell and will start picking colors this weekend. We’ve just finished our plumbing and electrical inspections. Countertops and tiles were chosen long ago. I’m torturing myself and others over the backsplash design.

We’re in Houston, too (med center), so I’ll be hanging at the Sherwin Williams in the Village. Love your green color.

LOVE how you guys used your house plans to help you figure out the color scheme. It’s a wonderful idea, and I’m totally stealing it! ;)

We’re Joel and Cory.

Having outgrown our modest bungalow, we decided not to sell because buying what we want has become cost prohibitive unless we shop elsewhere. After much planning and research we are nearly doubling the size of our home from tiny to average.

This is a chronicle of our adventure in remodeling.
