We are Joel and Cory.
Having outgrown our modest bungalow in the historic Norhill neighborhood, we decided not to sell because buying what we want has become cost prohibitive unless we shop elsewhere. After much planning and research we are nearly doubling the size of our home from tiny…to average.
This is a chronicle of our adventure in remodeling. We are not capable do-it-yourselfers. We are willing sign-on-the-bottom-liners. Our trusty General Contractor Lucas Craftsmanship began the transformation of our home on November 4, 2009. Estimated project duration is five months, at a cost of several dollars.
We invite you to our home.
Not actually inside our home because we may not know you and that would be weird. Instead, you are welcome to watch our home from a safe and respectable distance in case you are mean, odd, tasteless, have poor personal hygiene or don’t respect our “bubbles.” If we do indeed know you, then someday you can come over and bring an expensive housewarming gift because by the time it’s complete, we’ll surely need it! Or you can simply grace us with your company and we’ll be prepared to entertain.

Hi Joel and Cory!
My name is Holly and my husband and I live on Key Street. We LOVE reading your blog…we ride our bikes, walk and run by your house almost daily, and in the most non-stocker-ish way possible would love to hear your take on this process (and if interested, do it over cocktails!
).
We live in a tiny house (912 square feet), which had a tiny sad kitchen until a year ago, or so, when we knocked down a wall, and gutted it. We also need more space and are trying to figure out ways to add on and stay in Norhill. We are now debating moving, or adding on…and would LOVE to get your advice based on your experience.
Please let me know if you are free sometime this month, and we will find an evening~
Hi Holly,
I noticed your post and your interest in the process. We would love to visit with you about it as well if appropriate! My husband Tim was the architect on the (nolonger)tinysadkitchen project. In fact we are both architects. And my very first house was on Key Street just east of Norhill. Please feel free to contact us when you are ready for the architect step!
Gail
We would love to set up an initial meeting and hear about general next steps…we were talking, and thought that if we could do it as early as Saturday afternoon, we’d really appreciate it.
What is the best way to be in touch to coordinate plans?
Thank you, ~hkw
Hi Holly,
Saturday afternoon works for me. Why don’t you email me at gail@morningsidearchitects.com and we can coordinate?
Gail
Hi! I was looking at your pictures because I am thinking of painting a room the ancient marble color by Sherwin Williams that you mentioned you will be using. Is there any way you could post or email pictures of the walls painted with that color so that I can see it in a space?
Good luck!
Thanks,
Laurie
Sure! I’m not sure that pics of someone else’s house will give you what you need, but once it’s painted, we’ll certainly have pics up. Also going to paint “Grassland” the next darker shade in our master bath.
Hi Joel and Cory,
What a great blog! And what a great job you are doing with your house. It all looks wonderful. Thanks for your enthusiastic chronicle of the process of home renovation!
Cheers!
Gail
